Ciprofloxacin belongs to a family of drugs called quinolone antibiotics. A German based pharmaceutical company named Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals discovered this drug in the year 1981. It is popular and sold all over the world under various brand names such as Ciloxan, Cipro, Neofloxin, Cetraxal, Ciflox to name a few. The drug was approved by FDA in the year 1987.
